Wegovy Pill Dosage Chart: 1.5 mg to 25 mg, Day by Day

The short answer

The FDA label for the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) has four doses taken once a day: 1.5 mg on days 1 to 30, 4 mg on days 31 to 60, 9 mg on days 61 to 90, and 25 mg from day 91 on. The 25 mg tablet is the maintenance dose, and it gives blood levels similar to the 2.4 mg weekly shot. Take it each morning on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of water, then wait 30 minutes before food, drinks or other pills. As your appetite drops, Sharpy keeps your protein and strength work on track so the weight you lose is fat, not muscle.

What dose of the Wegovy pill will you take, and when does it go up? The FDA label uses four once-daily doses: 1.5 mg for the first 30 days, 4 mg for the next 30, 9 mg for the 30 after that, and 25 mg every day from day 91 on. The 25 mg tablet is the long-term dose. Below is the full chart, the morning routine the label requires, what to do about missed pills, and how the pill doses line up with the Wegovy shot.

This guide reads the official label. It is not a plan for you. Your prescriber decides your dose and when it changes.

Wegovy pill dosage chart

The Wegovy pill is semaglutide, the same drug as Wegovy and Ozempic shots, in a tablet. The FDA approved it on December 22, 2025, and it reached US pharmacies on January 5, 2026. Here is the schedule from Table 2 of the label.

Days Daily dose Stage Tablet look
1 to 30 1.5 mg Starting dose Round, "1.5" on one side
31 to 60 4 mg Step up Round, "4" on one side
61 to 90 9 mg Step up Round, "9" on one side
91 and on 25 mg Maintenance Oval, "25" on one side

All four tablets are white to light yellow with "novo" on the back. So the whole climb to the full dose takes 90 days, or about three months.

What is the Wegovy pill starting dose?

The starting dose is 1.5 mg once a day. It is not meant to cause much weight loss. Its job is to let your gut get used to semaglutide. The label says the slow climb is there to lower the risk of nausea, vomiting and other stomach side effects.

If a dose is hard on you, the label lets your prescriber wait longer before the next step. Staying on a dose longer is common and is not a failure. Our nausea guide has food tips that help during each step.

Wegovy pill dosage increase schedule

Each step lasts 30 days on the label. One bottle holds 30 tablets, so in practice you finish a bottle, then your next fill is the next strength.

Month Dose What usually happens
Month 1 1.5 mg Mild appetite change, body adjusts
Month 2 4 mg Smaller portions, some nausea is common
Month 3 9 mg Clearer appetite drop
Month 4 on 25 mg Full dose, weight loss builds over months

The right column is a general pattern, not a promise. People respond very differently.

How to take the Wegovy pill each morning

The pill only works if you take it the right way. The label is strict because so little drug gets absorbed.

  1. Take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
  2. Swallow one tablet whole with plain water, no more than 4 ounces (half a cup).
  3. Do not split, crush, chew or dissolve it.
  4. Wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything else (coffee too), or take other pills.
  5. Keep tablets in the original bottle, in a dry place at room temperature.

The label explains why water matters. In a study, people absorbed more semaglutide when they took the tablet with a small amount of water (50 mL) than with a full glass (240 mL). Coffee lovers can read our coffee on GLP-1 guide for a simple morning plan around the 30-minute wait.

One more label note: semaglutide tablets raised levothyroxine (thyroid pill) levels by 33% in a study. If you take a thyroid pill or another drug that needs careful levels, tell your prescriber.

Wegovy pill dosage vs injection

Why is the pill dose so much bigger? Because the stomach lets very little through. The label says about 1% to 2% of a semaglutide tablet reaches your blood, compared with about 89% of a shot.

Wegovy pill Wegovy injection
How often Once a day Once a week
Starting dose 1.5 mg 0.25 mg
Steps 1.5, 4, 9, 25 mg 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.7, 2.4 mg (7.2 mg Wegovy HD)
Time per step 30 days 4 weeks
Maintenance 25 mg 2.4 mg (or 7.2 mg)
Food rules Empty stomach, 30-minute wait None
Storage Room temperature Refrigerator before first use

In people without diabetes, the label says the 25 mg tablet gives average blood levels close to the 2.4 mg shot, but levels vary more from person to person. In people with type 2 diabetes, levels on the tablet were lower, and the label says some of them may do better on the shot.

Switching. The label allows moves both ways at the top dose. From the 2.4 mg shot, you start the 25 mg tablet one week after your last injection. From the 25 mg tablet, you start the 2.4 mg shot the next day. If 25 mg tablets are too hard on you, the label suggests the 1.7 mg shot. These are your prescriber's calls.

For how the Wegovy pill compares with Lilly's pill, which has six dose steps and no food rules, see our Foundayo guide. Rybelsus is also oral semaglutide, but it is a separate diabetes product, and its tablets are not swapped with Wegovy tablets by milligram. Our Rybelsus guide explains the difference.

How much weight can you lose on the 25 mg dose?

In the trial behind the approval (OASIS 4, called Study 7 on the label), adults with obesity or overweight and no diabetes took the 25 mg tablet for 64 weeks.

Result at 64 weeks Wegovy pill 25 mg Placebo
Average weight change -13.6% -2.4%
Lost 5% or more 76.3% 31.3%
Lost 10% or more 59.8% 14.4%
Lost 15% or more 47.0% 5.5%
Lost 20% or more 27.9% 3.1%
Waist change -12.2 cm -2.8 cm

Novo Nordisk reported 16.6% for people who stayed on the pill as directed. The label's 13.6% counts everyone, including people who stopped. Side effects were similar in type and rate to the Wegovy shot, mostly nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation. In the trial, 6.9% on the pill stopped because of side effects, versus 5.9% on placebo.

Losing that much weight fast puts muscle at risk. Eating less protein and moving less makes it worse. Sharpy sets one daily protein target from your body weight and gives you one 20-minute strength workout, so more of what you lose is fat. See our protein target guide for the numbers.

Wegovy pill dosage and cost

Novo Nordisk prices the pill by dose. As of our October 18, 2026 check of NovoCare, self-pay was $149 a month for 1.5 mg, $199 for 4 mg, and $299 for 9 mg or 25 mg. Prices can change, so check before you fill. Our Wegovy pill cost guide covers insurance, the subscription plan and the $50 Medicare option.

Safety notes from the label

  • Do not use it if you or your family have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
  • Do not combine it with other semaglutide products or other GLP-1 drugs.
  • Stop it at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy, and do not breastfeed while on the tablets.
  • Call your doctor for severe stomach pain that will not go away, which can be a sign of pancreatitis.
  • Never adjust, skip ahead, or stop on your own. Talk to your prescriber.

For the weekly shot schedule from Lilly, our Mounjaro dosage chart uses the same format.

The bottom line

The Wegovy pill climbs from 1.5 mg to 25 mg over 90 days, one 30-day step at a time. Take it on an empty stomach with a little water and wait 30 minutes. The dose looks huge next to the shot because so little is absorbed. While the drug cuts your appetite, guard your muscle: Sharpy gives you one protein target, one 20-minute workout and one Shape Score a day.

Questions people ask

What is the starting dose of the Wegovy pill?

The FDA label starts everyone at 1.5 mg once a day for 30 days. The low start gives your stomach time to adjust and lowers the chance of nausea and vomiting. Your prescriber then moves you up to 4 mg.

What is the Wegovy pill dosage schedule?

Per the label: 1.5 mg on days 1 to 30, 4 mg on days 31 to 60, 9 mg on days 61 to 90, and 25 mg once daily from day 91 onward. If a step is hard to tolerate, the label lets your prescriber delay the next increase.

How high does the Wegovy pill dosage go?

The highest dose is 25 mg once a day. That is also the maintenance dose for weight loss and for lowering heart risk. You should never take more than one tablet a day.

Why is the Wegovy pill dose higher than the injection?

Very little semaglutide gets into your blood from a pill. The label puts absorption at about 1% to 2%, compared with about 89% from the shot. So a 25 mg tablet each day is needed to reach blood levels similar to the 2.4 mg weekly injection.

What Wegovy pill dose equals the injection?

The label pairs the 25 mg daily tablet with the 2.4 mg weekly injection. People switching from the 2.4 mg shot start the 25 mg tablet one week after their last injection. People switching from the 25 mg tablet start the 2.4 mg shot the day after their last tablet. Your prescriber handles any switch.

What if I miss a dose of the Wegovy pill?

Skip the missed tablet and take your next one the following day as usual. Do not take two tablets to make up for it. If you miss several days in a row, call your prescriber before you restart.

Can I drink coffee after taking the Wegovy pill?

Yes, but wait at least 30 minutes. The label says to take the tablet with plain water only (up to 4 ounces) and to wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medicines.
