Wegovy Pill Cost: Self-Pay, Subscription, Insurance, Medicare

The short answer

The Wegovy pill costs $149 a month for the 1.5 mg starting dose, $199 for 4 mg and $299 for the 9 mg and 25 mg doses when you pay cash through NovoCare. A 12-month subscription through telehealth partners like Ro, WeightWatchers and LifeMD brings the 9 mg and 25 mg doses down to $249 a month. With commercial insurance that covers it, the savings offer can cut it to $25 a month, and eligible Medicare patients pay $50 a month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. Whatever you pay, protect the muscle you are paying to keep: Sharpy gives you one protein target and one 20-minute workout a day.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost? It depends on your dose and on how you pay. If you pay cash through NovoCare, it is $149 a month at the 1.5 mg starting dose, $199 at 4 mg, and $299 a month at the 9 mg and 25 mg doses. A 12-month subscription through a telehealth partner lowers the top doses to $249 a month. With commercial insurance that covers it, you may pay as little as $25. On Medicare, eligible patients pay $50 a month through a program that started July 1, 2026.

Below is every price we could confirm from Novo Nordisk, all in one place, plus a simple way to work out your yearly cost.

What is the Wegovy pill?

The Wegovy pill is oral semaglutide, the same medicine as the Wegovy shot, in a once-a-day tablet. The FDA approved it in December 2025 for adults with obesity, or adults with overweight and at least one weight-related health problem. It is also approved to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults with heart disease and excess weight.

In the 64-week OASIS 4 trial, people on the 25 mg pill lost 13.6% of their body weight on average, compared with 2.4% on placebo. That counts everyone, including people who stopped. Among people who kept taking it, the average was 16.6%.

It is not the same as Rybelsus, which is an oral semaglutide approved for type 2 diabetes. Our Rybelsus guide explains that one.

Wegovy pill price by dose (NovoCare self-pay)

These are Novo Nordisk's own cash prices on NovoCare. One month means one bottle of 30 tablets.

Dose When it is used (per the label) Self-pay price per month
1.5 mg First 30 days $149
4 mg Next 30 days $199
9 mg Next 30 days $299
25 mg Usual maintenance dose $299

A few things to know:

  • The 4 mg dose was $149 earlier in 2026. That offer ended August 31, 2026, and the price is now $199.
  • NovoCare calls these limited-time offers. Novo Nordisk can change or end them at any time.
  • You can get the pill shipped free through NovoCare Pharmacy, or send the prescription to a local pharmacy.
  • The label says to step up every 30 days. Your prescriber may keep you at a dose longer if side effects are hard. That decision belongs to them, not to a price chart.

Wegovy pill cost without insurance: the subscription option

On March 31, 2026, Novo Nordisk launched the first multi-month subscription for Wegovy. You sign up through a telehealth company, not through NovoCare. At launch, the partners were Ro, WeightWatchers and LifeMD, with Hims & Hers and Sesame named as coming next.

Plan length Wegovy pill (9 mg or 25 mg) Wegovy pen Yearly savings on the pill
3 months $289 a month $329 a month $120
6 months $269 a month $299 a month $360
12 months $249 a month $249 a month $600

The monthly price stays flat even if your dose changes, and Novo says you are not locked in. Cancellation rules and any doctor or membership fees depend on the telehealth company, so read their terms before you pay. Novo also notes that the limited-time offers on the lower doses are separate from the subscription.

Wegovy pill vs injection cost

If you are deciding between the pill and the shot, here is how cash prices compare today.

How you pay Wegovy pill Wegovy pen (injection)
Starting price, self-pay $149 (1.5 mg) $199 a month for the first 2 months (new patients, through Dec 31, 2026)
Maintenance, self-pay $299 (9 mg or 25 mg) $349 (up to 2.4 mg), $399 (7.2 mg)
12-month subscription $249 $249
Commercial insurance with savings offer As little as $25 As little as $25
Medicare GLP-1 Bridge $50 $50

So on a straight cash basis, the pill is $50 a month cheaper at the usual maintenance dose. On a 12-month subscription, the two cost the same. Price is only one part of the choice. The pill has strict rules: take it in the morning on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of water, swallow it whole, and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else or taking other pills. Some people find a weekly shot easier. Our Wegovy vs Ozempic guide covers how the shot works.

Is the Wegovy pill covered by insurance?

Coverage for weight-loss drugs is still patchy. Here is how it breaks down.

Commercial insurance. If your employer plan covers Wegovy for weight loss, the Wegovy savings offer can bring your cost down to as little as $25 a month. The savings cap is $100 a month, so if your plan leaves you with a big copay, you may pay more than $25. Many plans also need prior authorization.

Medicare. Medicare drug plans generally have not covered drugs used only for weight loss. The new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge changes that for now. From July 1, 2026 through the end of 2027, eligible Medicare beneficiaries with obesity can get any dose of the Wegovy pill or pen for a $50 copay per month. CMS decides who is eligible, and Novo says the details are not a guarantee of coverage. If you take Wegovy to lower heart risk, that use still goes through your regular Part D plan.

Medicaid and other government plans. Coverage varies by state. Government-insured patients cannot use the manufacturer savings offer.

For a step-by-step on appeals and prior authorization, read our GLP-1 cost and insurance coverage guide.

What a year on the Wegovy pill costs

Most people spend most of the year on a maintenance dose, so that is the number that matters. Here is the math for a full year at 9 mg or 25 mg.

Way you pay Monthly 12 months
NovoCare self-pay $299 $3,588
12-month subscription $249 $2,988
Commercial insurance at the $25 floor $25 $300
Medicare GLP-1 Bridge $50 $600

The first 2 months cost less on self-pay ($149, then $199), so a real first year is a little lower than $3,588. Add any telehealth visit fees on top.

Where else can you buy it?

  • Costco. Reports in October 2026 list the 9 mg to 25 mg tablets at about $299 a month for members, the same as NovoCare. A membership is required, and the price cannot be combined with insurance.
  • TrumpRx. The site links to Novo's direct prices, starting at $149 a month.
  • Amazon Pharmacy and other pharmacies. Cash prices we saw matched the $299 maintenance price, but check before you fill.

Only buy from a licensed pharmacy with a real prescription. Pills sold online as "oral semaglutide" without a prescription are not Wegovy, and there is no way to know what is in them.

Make the money count: protect your muscle

At $250 to $300 a month, you want the weight you lose to be fat, not muscle. Studies of semaglutide show that a real share of the weight lost can be lean mass. Two habits help the most: eating enough protein every day, and doing some strength training a few times a week. Our guide on how much protein you need on a GLP-1 gives you the numbers.

Sharpy turns that into one daily protein target and one 20-minute workout, plus a Shape Score that shows if your body is changing the right way, not just getting smaller. It works the same whether you take the pill, the shot or something else.

How it compares with Foundayo

Eli Lilly's Foundayo (orforglipron) is the other weight-loss GLP-1 pill. Lilly lists self-pay prices starting at $149 a month, the same entry price as the Wegovy pill. Foundayo can be taken with or without food, while the Wegovy pill has the empty-stomach rule. They have not been tested head to head. See our Foundayo guide for the details.

The bottom line

The Wegovy pill costs $149 to $299 a month on cash pay, $249 on a 12-month subscription, $25 with good insurance and $50 on Medicare. Prices are promotional and can change, so confirm on NovoCare before each refill. Talk to your prescriber about which dose and which form fit you. Then use Sharpy to make sure the pounds you lose come from fat.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost without insurance?

Through NovoCare, Novo Nordisk lists self-pay prices of $149 a month for 1.5 mg, $199 a month for 4 mg, and $299 a month for 9 mg or 25 mg. One month is a bottle of 30 tablets. Novo Nordisk calls these limited-time offers and can change them at any time.

Is the Wegovy pill cheaper than the injection?

Usually yes, on a cash basis. The pill is $299 a month at the 9 mg and 25 mg doses, while the Wegovy pen is $349 a month for doses up to 2.4 mg and $399 a month for the 7.2 mg dose. On a 12-month subscription both cost $249 a month, so the gap closes.

What is the Wegovy subscription program?

Novo Nordisk launched it on March 31, 2026 for self-pay patients. You sign up through a telehealth partner (Ro, WeightWatchers and LifeMD at launch) for 3, 6 or 12 months. For the 9 mg and 25 mg pill, the price is $289, $269 or $249 a month. The price stays flat even if your dose changes. Terms vary by platform.

Is the Wegovy pill covered by insurance?

It depends on your plan. Many employer plans do not cover weight-loss drugs. If yours does, the Wegovy savings offer can lower your cost to as little as $25 a month, with a maximum savings of $100 a month. People with Medicare, Medicaid or other government insurance cannot use that savings offer.

Does Medicare cover the Wegovy pill?

Through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which started July 1, 2026 and runs through the end of 2027, eligible Medicare beneficiaries with obesity can get all doses of the Wegovy pill for a $50 monthly copay. CMS sets the eligibility rules, so ask your prescriber and check CMS.gov.

Can you buy the Wegovy pill at Costco?

Costco lists Wegovy among its member pharmacy prices, and recent reports show the 9 mg to 25 mg tablets at about $299 a month, the same as NovoCare. You need a prescription and a Costco membership. Check the Costco pharmacy page for the current price before you fill it.

Can I cut Wegovy pills in half to save money?

No. The FDA label says to swallow Wegovy tablets whole and not to split, crush or chew them. Splitting would also not save money, because each dose is priced per bottle. Talk to your prescriber if cost is a problem.
